The Answer, God Gave Me
In John 8, when they brought the woman caught in the act of adultery
to Jesus, He bent down and wrote in the dirt. What He did write made the Pharicees
and the scribes leave with out saying a word. And they left there, the oldest
first.
Why did the oldest leave first ? Their sins were just as bad as the
youngest and this should have made them all leave at the same time.
Why didn't Jesus comdemn her ? After all she was caught having sex with
a married man, or she was married . Married people who have sex with other
than their spouse commit adultery.
What did Jesus write in the dirt that
made the oldest leave first ? The oldest knew the law of Moses better than
the youngest did. That's why, when Jesus began to write what they knew best,
they left first. Then after He wrote some more, the others left also. They
left with out saying a word, because they knew Jesus had them dead to right
when it came to the law.
Which law did He write in the dirt ?
Deuteronomy 22:22, "If a man is found lying with a woman
married to a husband, then both of them shall die--the man that lay with the
woman,, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel.
If Jesus had condemned her, without condemning the man as well,
He would have broken the law of Moses. He could not condemn her because they
failed to bring the other adulterer with them. If they had, Jesus would have
had to obey the law, and both would have been stoned. But because only the
woman was brought to Him, He could do nothing to her. And as He wrote
in the dirt the Pharisees who knew the law the best, left first, then the others.
This left no one to be a witness against her. Therefore He had to, by
law, let her go.
Deuteronomy 17:6, "Whoever is deserving of
death shall be put to death on the testimony of two or three witnesses; he
shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness.
7, "The
hands of the witnesses shall be the first against him to put him to death,
and afterward the hands of all the people. So you shall put away the evil from
among you.
This means the Pharisees knew they would have to cast the first
stone at the woman, and in doing so they would have broken the law, and they
themselves would have to stand trial for murder.
Let him who is with sin cast the first stone. They knew they had to cast
the first stone but couldn't. They knew they had sinned against the law by not
bringing the man also. They also knew they were trying to trap Jesus, and failed,
so they left, leaving not a single witness against the woman.
